It is time to start thinking about how we restart this country! I wish it would be simple that we could just flip a switch and everyone can go back to their previous lives.
Not possible.
This country has been permanently changed forever. Some changes are going to be good. Some changes are going to be bad. The only constant is change.
So what is going to happen? No one knows for sure but that does not stop me from taking a spin and the prediction wheel! Lack of knowledge does not deter me!
In 6 months, we can all look back and laugh at my predictions and get giggly over how wrong I was!
Does not matter, I am going ahead and look into the future!
Who Goes First?
When I was a child, we used to have some old bridge, an old path, an old building, or some other challenge that none of us wanted to go first. each of us kids stood back and wanted one of the others to go first.
Now, we get to start work again (hopefully soon) and we need to figure out who goes first.
We need to start with companies that cannot operate any other way than to reopen their physical location. Hairdressers, nail salons, restaurants, hotels, tour companies, airlines are among the many places that need to open as soon as possible.
We can open many of those businesses safely and keep people separated.
Many workers like myself do not need to go into a physical office to get our work done. So, let’s stay remote as long as possible. I am talking months and possibly years.
I have long been an excited promoter of remote work. you can read previous posts I have written about remote work and it has so many benefits. Eliminating a commute, the employee can work anywhere, minimal interruptions, intense focus, and other benefits make remote work a golden opportunity.
The problem with remote work in the past, was that managers, schooled in the old ways of management, wanted everyone sitting in front of them – whether it was not needed. Now, forcing to people to sit in front of you in an office is out. Not going to be viable in the future.
It is going to be a very interesting next few weeks
