No matter how much workplace freedom to you, it means nothing to your boss.  She or he does not care!

This was a painful revelation when I first entered the work world.  I was looking for my boss to be my father or mother and greatly interested in me and my life.

I was shocked when my boss didn’t care of I was fulfilled or not!  Shocking!   They also didn’t care if I was feeling giddy or not!

It wasn’t too long before I realized that my personal fulfillment was not of great concern for my bosses.

If you want to have work schedule freedom then you will need to find some benefits for your employer.  Those are the only reasons you should bring up to her or him.

Many years ago, a colleague of mine approached our boss and requested an increase in salary.  When the boss inquired what was his justification, he replied that his wife was pregnant and he needed the money.

The boss, after giving him the evil eye, inquired who was responsible for the pregnancy.  The boss’s reasoning was that since he didn’t cause the pregnancy, he should not have to pay for it by raising the salary.

Instead, my colleague should have presented information on how efficient and productive he was and that he deserved a raise because of how he contributed to the company bottom line.

If you want work schedule freedom, present information about better productivity, fewer sick days, or fewer days taking care of sick children.  When pitching the boss, create a list of benefits that make it a good deal for them.

In a future blog, I will develop the list of benefits for work freedom that you can use to influence your boss!

Take charge and enjoy your work!
